James Reynolds is the Creative Director of Boris the Dog

James has Filmmaking Certificate (Distinction) from London Film Academy, a BADA (Hons) in Directing and Performance from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MA Acting for Screen from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He has created and collaborated on over 40 Plays, 3 Features Films and 20 Shorts. Since moving from South Africa to London he has set up Boris the Dog in order to continue his work.

Boris the Dog is focused on Political, Racial, and Humanitarian topics. It challenges Revisionist History, investigates Social Inequality and exposes Entrenched Privilege. Above all Boris the Dog seeks to empathise and translate many points of view and by doing so allow audiences to re-evaluate prejudice, belief and opinion.

By placing the Apathetic Center in juxtaposition with the Fanatical Right and Radical Left we encourage enlightenment and action.

Highlights include:

After the Dance- Short Film- Directed by James, Produced by Boris the Dog. An experimental 1st person Point Of View film, using the technique in dramatic, rather than comic or action based narratives. When dealing with controversial subject matter, which is highly subjective, can 1st person POV confront the viewer with a changing sense of right and wrong? Can the way in which our characters see the world be communicated by how the world looks to them, rather than how they look to the world, which is the current standard of filmmaking.

Bang Bang- Play- Written and Directed by James and Kieran Reid, Bang Bang explored conflict photography through the lens of The Bang Bang Club, made famous by their images of township warfare in early 90's South Africa. With permission from Greg Marinovich this play dramatised the night before, the morning of and the night after Ken Oosterbroek's death. Themes include: the right to document, journalistic integrity, political machination and human dignity.

No Fixed Abode- Play- Directed, based on 48 hours living homeless in London, this play looks at the crack through which the unfortunate can fall, even in developed countries with extensive Benefit Schemes. A journalistic/documentry style play introducing Dave, a Gulf War veteran, devastated by PTSD and struggling to keep afloat in one of the richest cities in the world.

The Lobster Trap- Play- Written by James and Addu Whatta Khan, Directed by James, The Lobster Trap, influenced by Dr. Strangelove, investigates the North Korea question, the permanence of nuclear assured destruction and appeasement through comic and frivolous means. Featuring Kim Jong-Il, Dick Cheney and Miss Texas 2003 The Lobster Trap reminds us to laugh at Armageddon.

In Development:

Horn- A Feature Film following two young South African men who put aside racial enmity to fight Rhino poaching. Apocalypse Now meets Blood Diamond

The Island- Feature Film, Alternate History film about an MK plot to free Nelson Mandela from Robben Island. Inglorious Basterds meets Escape from Alcatraz

Collaborations:

Becoming Mohammed- Play- On a live Game Show an atheist sister discovers her brother has converted to Islam. She reacts in much the same way the world has reacted, blind to the difference between Islam and ISIS. The lens of the Western Media fuels the flames and the love between the siblings is tested.

T

Boris the Dog is a dog.

He's a good dog. But he is just a dog and not much use on a film set, even when there is a role for a dog, because he can't sit still and tends to shit everywhere. He's still my favourite dog though.
